United Bankshares Increases Dividend

United Bankshares, Inc. (NASDAQ: UBSI) declared a first quarter dividend of 22¢ per share for shareholders of record as of March 9, 2001. This is a 5% increase over the 21¢ paid in both the first and fourth quarters of 2000.

The dividend payout of approximately $9.2 million on 41.7 million shares is payable April 2, 2001. The year 2001 will be the 28th consecutive year of dividend increases to United shareholders. The annualized 2001 dividend of 88¢ equates to a yield of approximately 4% based on recent UBSI market prices.
